Dear Sisters-In-The-Lord,
Hello and welcome to Teachers of Good Things! Teachers of Good Things is a virtual place of encouragement for those women who are striving to live a life that would please their Savior. The best thank you that we could ever give to our beloved Jesus is a life well-lived, set apart in Him. In the times that we live in it seems that it is becoming harder and harder to find those women whose lights shine in the darkness.
As a young unmarried woman, I can remember being so excited for what God had in store for me. As I became a wife, I looked to older sisters for an example of what I should do. As a mother, as a wife, and as a truly struggling woman at times, I craved an older, wiser sister to come alongside and give me instruction, and reassurance, that God’s way was best, and what His way looked like in real time, in their real-life experiences. This is no accident; Paul wrote to Titus and stated that the
“aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”—Titus 2:3-5
But what are those “good things”? I feel like those “good things” are getting harder and harder to see. As we live in a post-modern society, we have those that are calling evil, good; and good, evil. Even the notion of what a woman is, is under attack.
God made women unique, with a unique role. A godly woman is a nurturer, beauty in motion, a giver of grace and a source of hard- fought-for wisdom. Her hands have loved in a thousand ways with little fanfare. She is her husband’s cheerleader and best friend, and a helper in what he needs. She follows him in quiet strength because her trust is in God, and he is covered in her prayers. She is her children’s fiercest advocate. While she lacks physical strength, she is a warrior in prayer, storming the throne of grace for her family, her neighbors, and her enemies. She is a free giver of kindness and generous in acts of service to others. In seasons of sorrow and hardship she “lifts up her eyes unto the hills, from whence comest her help, for her help is from the Lord”, and is made better for her experience. She is rock-solid faith wrapped in a soft, tender, unassuming, approachable exterior. And unlike what the world wants to say. . . she grows the most beautiful in her old age, just like a leaf in the fall of life.
So this site is for those who strive for this life. I don’t have it all figured out; I am more of a selection of a few “what to-dos” and many “what NOT to-dos”. I don’t intend to do all the writing. But God has given me a gift of writing. It has taken me several years to figure out what I am supposed to do with it. Am I the most gifted writer? Absolutely, positively, certainly not.
But one thing I DO know; this gift was given so that I could honor HIM. And that is what I intend to do with it.
I am new at websites and blog sites, so please be patient with me. Here is a list of things to come at some point in the future:
- Lessons that apply to our unique position as women.
- Testimonies of salvation and of His goodness in our lives in answered prayers.
- Articles by contributors regarding loss, addiction, depression, anger, owning a business, motherhood, homeschooling, marriage, child rearing, widowhood, being divorced, abuse, etc.
- Book and movie reviews
- Eventually, a merchandise section of books, t-shirts, home decor, etc.
- Corresponding podcasts
- Practical living tips—gardening, canning, homemaking, teaching concepts, Bible study plans, etc. by contributors
I am a member of a Missionary Baptist church and the wife of a Missionary Baptist preacher, and as such intend that this site reflect those values and truths held dear by many of our churches. But I do welcome all to come and visit, and Lord willing, leave encouraged, refreshed, and inspired to be——
a Teacher of Good Things.
You are loved!
Love,
Sandra
